Program Policies

Registration

  • Group lessons run in 7–8 week sessions in fall, winter and spring, and 4-week sessions in summer. Spots are filled first come, first served, and current students get first choice. New riders go on a waiting list and are contacted when a suitable spot opens.

  • Riders must be at least 5 years old for riding lessons.

  • Every participant, or the parent or guardian of a participant under 18, must sign our Participant Release before the first session.

  • A spot is held once full payment for the session is received.

Prices

Private and semi-private lessons are $55 per participant per one-hour session. Prices for other programs are quoted when you contact us. Prices may change. The price confirmed at booking is the price you pay for that session.

Cancellations and refunds

  • If you cancel at least 24 hours before a private or semi-private lesson, you can reschedule or get a credit. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged in full.

  • Session (multi-week) lessons: You get a full refund if you cancel before the first lesson. After the session starts, missed lessons are not refunded but may be made up if space allows.

  • Pony parties and group events: A deposit is required to book. It is non-refundable within 14 days of the event, but it can be moved to another date once.

  • CPR, First Aid and EVOC/EMSVO classes: Full refund up to 7 days before class; after that, you can transfer to another class date.

  • If we cancel, you choose a make-up session or a full refund for that session.

Weather and horse welfare

We may cancel or shorten a session because of lightning, extreme heat or cold, high winds, unsafe footing or other conditions that put riders or horses at risk. We may also change a session if a horse is unwell or unsafe to work. We will contact you as early as we can, and weather cancellations by us are made up or credited.

Safety rules

  • An ASTM/SEI-certified riding helmet must be worn, properly fastened, whenever a person is mounted. We have helmets to borrow.

  • Wear long pants and closed, hard-soled shoes or boots with a small heel. No sandals or sneakers with deep treads.

  • Follow staff instructions at all times. Do not enter paddocks or stalls, or feed horses, without staff permission.

  • Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent, guardian or staff member while on the property.

  • Tell us before the first session about any medical condition, allergy, medication or recent injury that could affect safe participation.

  • Mounted activities have a rider weight limit for the welfare of our horses. Ask us for details when you book.

Photos

We sometimes take photos at lessons and events to share on our website and social media. We only post photos of participants whose parent, guardian or own signed consent is on file, and you can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.

Inherent risks of horse activities

Riding and working around horses carries inherent risks that cannot be fully eliminated, even with careful supervision. Our Participant Release, which every participant signs before their first session, explains these risks. Under New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 5:15-1 et seq.), Conner Trails is not liable for injuries resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities.
